Christian music accounts for nearly 40 percent of all music sales, according to SoundScan. The genre ranks as the sixth most popular style of music - ahead of jazz, classical and new age. Adding to the appeal of Christian music is the diversity within the genre. Christian artists embrace just about every sound from pop and rock to country and even a little rap here and there. The top Christian artists of 2012 include newer and established acts and reflect the diversity found within the genre. Some of the artists on the list borrow their sound from other genres, but keep the overall tone required to fit into the Christian music category.

Formed in 1985 in Mooloolaba, Australia, this Christian pop rock band is still earning praise while winning over new fans and keeping its established fan base happy at the same time. The band's most recent album, God's Not Dead, was released late last year and has earned rave reviews
